HOW TO MAKE APPLE CRUMBLE PIE

Yummy yummy apple crumble! Apple crumble and apple pie are both in my top favourite desserts! I absolutely love them and it is finally that time of year where you can eat and enjoy apple desserts to your hearts content for Thanksgiving and the Christmas holiday season! YAY!


So Today I wanted to share with you all my recipe for apple crumble pie that I love oh so much!

This recipe is large to fill 1 deep dish pie and can serve up to 12 people. (depending on your serving portion size of course)

So lets get started! Here is a list of the ingredients you will need to make this apple crumble.
For the Filling
  • 12 apples of your choice peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 de-frosted pie shell store bought or homemade (optional)
For the crumble
  • 2 cups light brown sugar
  • 2 cups rolled oats ( not instant oatmeal )
  • 1/4 cups ground almonds
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 cup diced salted butter

Cooking directions




Start by peeling and slicing your apples, do this an hour in advance since it can be very time consuming by yourself. Once your apples are pre’d, start combining your dry ingredients in a small mixing dish. Combine 1/2 cup light brown sugar, 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg and mix together. Make sure there are no brown sugar lumps. Next; take your dry mixture and add it to your apples in a large mixing dish and mix until all the apples are covered with the dry ingredients. Set aside for later.

Moving onto the crumble. Combine the dry ingredients for the crumble in a mixing dish. Start by adding 2 cups of light brown sugar, 2 cups rolled oats, 1/4 cup ground almonds and 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional). Mix together then add 1 cup of diced salted butter. Next; combine the dry ingredients together with the butter using your hands. The warmth from your hands will makes the butter soft making your crumble easy to work with and tasting the best!
Now your ready to assemble your crumble. Place your de-frosted pie shell (optional) in your pie dish then fill the dish with your apple mixture. Then cover your apples with your crumble mixture so that all the apples are covered and cannot be seen.
Time to bake! Pre heat your oven to 400โ„‰ then cook your apple crumble for 40 minutes. You may want to place your crumble on a baking sheet in case the apple juices overflow, this will prevent a mess in your oven. Once your crumble has cooked for 40 minutes, remove it from the oven, let it cool a bit then serve it!
You now have a delicious apple dessert for your guests, family or even just for yourself! You can also serve this with a side scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream! YUMMY!
