I know a lot of girls out there who think they should go to college for makeup to be a makeup artist. I personally chose that road. I drifted off from my original hair styling plan because I got indecisive about it from a co-op I did at a salon in high school. The salon I did my co-op at only had clientele of women who were 60+ years old. I had no desire to spend the rest of my life cutting and perming hair for old women. I want something more glamorous so I figured I should go to school for makeup. And here is my opinion on whether it is worth while or not.
I hope my personal experience is helpful to you in making your decision on what you want to go to school for in the beauty industry. Stick to your original plans if you had any before. Makeup school might be good for you but for the majority of people, it isn’t. I know plan to go back to my original plan, become a hair stylist as fast as I can so that I can pay of my ridiculous debt of 20,000 as fast as possible. My loan company said with minimum payments it will take me 9 and a half years to pay it off. And just being a makeup artist who can only get a regular part time job. doesn’t always make me enough money to make that minimum payment as well as pay off my other monthly bills. Equally me having no life, not money to experience things and still having to live at home with my dad. This is not how my life would have been had I stuck to my original plan.
Make the right decision and do as much research as possible before you jump into a college education. Especially for makeup artistry.
