MUUIDO ISLAND SOUTH KOREA
Muuido Island is an island that Kyle and I were recommended to by some other foreigners that have lived in Korea much longer then we have. They told us the island was a great place to go to to get away from city life and enough a beach that has the classic camping feeling to it. We previously this summer visited Busan and it was crazy busy with large amounts of people everywhere you went. It was great for the experience however it truly doesn’t fill that craving for camping or rustic beach chilling.
So on Korean thanksgiving, Kyle and I made the venture to Muuido Island.
Rough Directions from memory
Okay so this was a while back but here is what I can remember on how to get to Muuido Island.
The easiest way to get there is to catch a airport bus to Incheon Airport. We headed from Seohyeon to Incheon, catching the airport bus outside the front of AK Plaza at Seohyeon station. The bus costs around $12 on your T-Money card for 1 trip to the airport.
Once you arrive at the airport, head down to arrivals and ask the bus boys (men walking around helping people get cabs and buses) to help you get a taxi to Muuido Island. The bus boys will find you a taxi that can take your right to the ferry to the island! The taxi ride will cost around $10-$14 depending on traffic.
From there the taxi will drop you off right at the ferry, head into the building next to the ferry to buy a ticket. from what I can remember, it only costs maybe 2 dollars per person. I can’t remember but it is super cheap.
Then just walk right onto the ferry!
Once the ferry arrives at the island. Catch the bus to the Hanagae beach! There are 2 buses. One goes to the beach and one goes else where. All the have to do is ask the bus driver “Hanagae Beache?” and they will say yes or no. You want the bus that goes to ” Hanagae Beache”. Once you are on the bus, ride it all the way to the first stop which is the main beach.
Once you are off the bus, there will be an entrance fee. Once again it is very cheap. Only a few couple dollars or so. Then walk through the gates and thats it!
You have the option to bring a tent to camp in on the beach over night. Cost’s 5-10$ a night for to camp with your own tent or you can rent out a beach hut for 1 night (which is what we did since we weren’t originally planning on staying the night). The beach hut costs around 30-40$ a night but you get $10 back once you leave.
Muuido Island beach is great for camping, enjoying fresh sea food, on beach zip lining, ATV riding, Horse back riding or even just classic drinking on the beach!
But the best part is that you can walk out to see when it is low tide and hunt for clams and other interesting shell fish! Which is the main attraction to this beach ๐ It also was a filming location for quite a few Korean dramas such as “Stair Way to Heaven” and more!
Muuido Island Hanagae beach is popular with Korean families and is becoming popular with Foreigners as well. It isn’t the most English friendly, but it starting to add English for the growing amount of Foreigner tourism. So it is nice to go there to meet other foreigners and still enjoy traditional Korean atmospheres ๐
Now for random photos!
