I’ll be honest, those are some super appealing claims for an acne treatment brand! What really stands out and attracts me to this brand as someone with sensitive acne prone skin, is the lack of harsh ingredients. Removing Salicylic Acid and Benzoyl Peroxide with a hypoallergenic formula, makes this acne treatment skincare brand seem like the perfect choice for my skin! Seeing these claims make me exceptionally excited to give Real U skincare a try.

Ingredients & Packaging

Let’s start off with the packaging of the Real U skincare line. Sub-par yet functional, to me when I look at the brand, it look’s like your classic western acne treatment skincare brand. Simple white tube packaging with pastel colored labeling for a clean and simple look and feel. There really is nothing flashy about this brand that makes it desirable to have on your vanity. However let’s be real, when we are struggling with acne, we don’t really worry much about how our skincare looks in our bathroom! I do however love the fact that all the products come in tubes. This helps keep the products fresh and safe from contamination, which jar products are bad for.

The ingredients side of these products is where things get a little interesting. By starting off, please remember this is strictly an acne treatment skincare brand, making the main focus the treatment of acne and the following hydration and nourishing. The Real U skincare brand impressed me by keeping the harsh chemicals of Salicylic Acid and Benzoyl Peroxide out of all their products. These 2 ingredients are the most commonly used in acne treatment skincare routines in the western market. If you are like me, and have sensitive combination dry acne prone adult acne skin… then these ingredients most certainly have caused you harm in the past. I for one cannot used these 2 products without them burning my skin. I was excited to see a western brand exclude these ingredients, which is very similar to Korean and Japanese acne treatment skincare.

Real U cosDNA Ingredients Breakdown

Real U skincare is revolutionizing western acne treatment by focusing on ingredients that protect and maintain the skin while mildly balancing pH levels and exfoliating the skin with gentle vitamin A and AHA ingredients. They also focus on anti-inflammatory, anti-irritation and providing antioxidant treatment. Which are all aspects I look for in my usual Korean skincare products as these features work well with my sensitive dry adult acne prone skin.

Except for some small exceptions, I was pleasantly surprised to see that these products are generally safe and non-irritating!

The only concern that might arise for some people will be the small amount of alcohol as a preservative or if you have a sensitivity to the antioxidant ingredient used.

Texture & Application

Real U Cleanse Gentle Foaming Face Wash

When I first saw the word “foaming”, I instantly was put off as I have a bad track record with foaming cleansers as they usually overly strip my skin, resulting in hives and acne flare ups. To my pleasant surprise, the Real U Foaming Face Wash was extremely lightweight and gentle! It only foamed up mildly, leaving my skin feeling fresh but not dry! However it does not do well to remove makeup so I recommend using a micellar water or proper oil cleanser prior, then second cleansing with this in the evenings. It is perfect for a morning acne skincare routine!

Real U Control Face Gel Serum

This one I was very excited for! I love all serums and essences, especially those that focus on pH balancing and hydrating the skin. Upon use, the serum has a lovely dense gel consistency that glides over the skin like  dream. It immediately has a calming and cooling effect, which leaves you with a lovely hydrated feeling. My skin instantly felt full of water after using only a small amount! Plus it absorbs wonderfully without clumping on the skin, making it great for both morning and nighttime acne skincare routine’s. 100% approved in my books!

Real U Hydrate Lite Moisturiser

I was looking forward to this moisturiser as I am very picky with the creams I use. I was intrigued when I first used it. It’s texture is almost identical to the face gel serum, however slightly thicker and richer. I would label this moisturizer as a lotion and not a cream. It is exceptionally light, however it leaves the skin feeling perfectly moisturized during the daytime. Though for nighttime, I would recommend a proper night cream. I do however like how this moisturizer makes my skin feel during the day. Not too much and not too little, it’s just right.

Real U Remove Spot Treatment

Now I was curious about this one. From my experience with western skincare, spot treatments usually contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. To see a western brand provide a spot treatment without either of these 2 ingredients was interesting to me. In all honestly this concept is very similar to Korean and Japanese spot treatments. Interested to give it a shot so I applied it to one of my active pimples and in only a few hours the pimple reduced in size without any burning or irritation! The anti-inflammatory properties of this spot treatment are in fact, quite spot on (pun intended)! Texture wise it is similar to a watery gel that isn’t messy and absorbs evenly and a little goes a long way.

Results & Overall

I’ve officially been strictly using these Real U skincare products over the span of nearly 3 weeks and I am impressed! The simple yet effective formula works excellently to reduce clogged pores and calm any acne related skin inflammation. My skin is more balanced while being not too dry and not too oily. It feels just right! After moving to Australia, as I expected, my skin started to breakout. This happens every time to move countries, so to find someone that would help boost my skin to clear up and calm down was just what I needed!

Real U Skincare gets a 100% approve in my books! It did what it said it would, nothing more and nothing less. I am pleased with the results! Calm, hydrated and happy skin!
