Suffering from acne is never fun for anyone and can take quite the toll on ones self esteem levels no matter who the individual may be. Many people can have similar skin issues but one issue I personally have experience with is suffering from Acne while also having sensitive skin. As someone with this skin type, it can be very difficult to find acne treatment products that work and don’t burn or damage the skin making the level of irritation worse.
Many acne treatment brands assume that the customer that suffers from acne initially has either oily skin or normal skin. It can be very hard to find acne products that are design for us with sensitive skin that isn’t oily.
So why is it hard for us to find products? The most common individual with sensitive skin will also have dry skin. People with dry skin tend to also be very sensitive because their epidermis (skin) is always lacking in the ability to produce lipid which create our natural moisture barrier in out dermis. Without those lipids, the skin becomes cracked, dry and sometimes even painful. The skin is always in a damaged state because it doesn’t have much of that protective barrier. This makes them sensitive because common ingredients like preservative and fragrances can move deep into the skin and cause irritation. Preservatives and fragrances are common irritants to anyone, but they effect everyone differently. Mostly causing irritation to those with dry skin.
For a person with sensitive skin, I find there are two different ways they can have acne. If your skin is dry and sensitive with acne, your acne most likely is caused by irritation. There is something in your skincare routine that is making your skin very irritated. The “acne” you are experiencing isn’t truly acne, but it is a form of hive that appears like acne but is not.
Tips for you would be to take a good look at your current skincare routine and read the ingredients. If you notice that the word “fragrance” or any colorant such as “blue” “green” “yellow” etc, is high on the list then you need to stop using that product and find one that has less of those ingredients.
If you are new to skincare, it can be hard to find the right products for your skin type if you aren’t educated on what ingredients do what.
You will want products that help you skin fight its dryness while also keeping you skin calm and soothed from irritation. You want to shrink those “hive pimples” till they disappear.
Look for products that have natural oils and fruit extracts in them. These types of ingredients will be rich in nutrients to help rehydrate your skin and will have natural calming properties to control acne hives, making them shrink and disappear. Products that contain Vitamins A,C & E are products that will help to heal your skin and are ingredients you will always want to incorporate in your routine.
What Cleanser I recommend:
You will want to cleanse with the proper cleanser for your dry irritated skin. Many commonly assume the cleanser doesn’t matter but that is a huge mistake. Even though cleanser aren’t on your skin for very long, they can either nourish your skin or strip it of all its natural protection causing it to become very irritated and sensitive.
For your skin type being dry, sensitive and prone to hive acne, I recommend a gentle oil cleanser.
Because of the word “oil” most tend to run away from idea of it. Oil cleansers a gentle on the skin and rinse of clean without clogging the pores. They deeply clean into the pores of your skin, lifting away impurities and dead skin cells that can cause annoying blackheads, whiteheads and even acne pimples. They are gentle for your skin type and also at the nutrients your skin is lacking back into your skin! Remember what I said about lipids? Since you skin can’t properly produce them, the oil cleanser helps to add what you don’t have back into your skin while also cleaning!
Oil cleansers also work as amazing makeup removers since they are so good at lifting dirt out of the skin.
I recommend a basic toner such as the Ciracle Base Toner pH 5.6 from WishTrend. It will actually help repair your protective barrier while closing up your pores after cleansing.
What serum I recommend:
Serum? What do I mean serum? Serum’s are very important in every skincare routine. A serum is a product that is a high concentrate of specific ingredients that target a certain skin concern. They are the secret to success in any skincare routine and there is a serum for any type of skin concern. A serum comes after toner as your 3rd step in your skincare routine.
Since you have dry irritable skin prone to hive acne. You want a serum that is going to put vitamins into the skin while also provided deep moisture to prevent future dryness. I recommend a serum with B5 vitamin in it. Why B5? B5 penetrates deep into the layers of the skin to help reconstruct your protective moisture barrier without clogging pores or causing irritation. The B5 encourages lipids in the skin while also stimulating skin cell health. B5 helps fight against dryness and acne pimples! While keeping B5 in your skincare routine, you will also be helping your skin fight against future signs of aging by maintain a strong moisture level in the skin. You will be preventing dehydration lines as well as future wrinkles.
My number 1 serum I recommend is the Ciracle Hydra B5 Source Serum. This serum has all the powers of B5 with an added boost of Hyaluronic Acid and Adenosine giving you the ultimate deep hydration your skin needs to protect itself from dryness and sensitivity as well as encouraging skin healing for clearer, smoother, more even toned skin that is soft and supple looking. See why a serum is so important? ๐
What moisturizer I recommend?
There is one more product that is important in your skincare routine and that is a moisturizer. A moisturizer is of much importance in any dry skin routine, without one your skin would be lost! But since you are sensitive and prone to hive pimples, you need a moisturizer that is full of nutrients but also designed for your sensitive skin.
A your moisturizer so have plenty of natural ingredients from fruit/vegetable extracts that are safe for sensitive skin and also provide plenty of vitamins and minerals to your skin. These factors will help to repair damaged dry skin cells and rebuild your moisture barrier to prevent future irritations without causing new irritation.
Which is why I strongly recommend Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Cream. This moisturizer is designed for you! It consists mainly of vegetable extracts to provide the vitamins your skin needs while calming irritation. It is free of harmful preservatives with extremely gentle ingredients that get the job done. This cream is honestly the cream that rescued my skin this winter when I was suffering from extreme sensitivity and reactions and hives from the dry winter air. Without this cream, my skin would have continued to have hives, be red, burn and peel.
